small herding dogs would be the best (not hunting dogs) as long as they where raised around chickens
References :
Border Collies are really short haired dogs but they would probably be best for the job. There are also Australian Cattle Dogs, Shetland Sheepdogs, Pembroke Welsh Corgi, Bearded Collie, Great Pyrenees, or a well-trained German Shepard.
References :
Myself

well personally, Dachsund are a hunting a breed, so that was a bit of a mistake... really i think the only ones i can come up with are in the Herding category (Border Collie, Aussie, Cattle Dog, ect), the most they will do is heard them, and a Golden Retriever.

the thing to do is introduce them to the chickens, and when the pup gets close either pull the pup away (you would have it's collar and leash on) or clap very loudly to distract puppy from trying to hurt the chickens. You can always ask some peoplewho farm animals how they did it (my uncle owns a farm too and he had chickens and ducks but his Labrador killed them :S despite the chckens even had their own box pen)
