6 years is extremely unusual for a rat’s lifespan. Go on a rat forum and you’ll see they measure their rat’s life in months. At24 months the rat is pretty much a senior citizen.

Look at all that shit! All a rat should eat is rodent blocks and fresh fruits and vegetables in moderation, e.g as treats. 18 months to two years is an extremely short period of time. Most of mine live to be about four years old and a friend of mine had a girl that lived to be 6 so that’s bogus.

The only thing a rat should be free fed is their block (Harlan Teklad, Oxbow, Hamster Extrusion, or Mazuri). Dog and cat food are far too high in protein for a rat. Too much protein leads to obesity and skin conditions. Veggies and fruit should be fed in moderation, especially fruit because they’re full of natural sugar.
I REALLY want to know how she expects to fit 2 or 3 bowls in those minuscule hamster cages behind her; they’re both inappropriate as long term cages.

This food would cost a lot to make. And it’s not balanced. If you want a good diet try HT Lab Blocks, or Oxbow (The truest block, a balanced meal used for lab rats to keep them in top shape) or even try making a Suebees mix. It’s so cheap, and higher quality than this crap she’s making. You might also want to look at a list of food bad for rats.

@dreamera1 My family had a spitz that was born in 1980 and died in the year 2001. he was deaf and couldnt hardly see but he still got around pretty good until he got loose without us knowing and fell into a ditch and couldn’t get out. We fed it table food and gave it aspirin when it was sick
