We have Gambian pouched rats infesting Louisiana, colonies of parrots flying free in Utah and California, Pythons overtaking the everglades in Florida, WHERE WILL IT END!!!! People buy these animals and when they become to much for them to handle, they release them into the wild, entire ecosystems are in jeopardy, something needs to be done

Well laws are getting tougher to try and curb the release of exotics into the environment. However, even if that occurred, you would still have the same problem with accidental transfers such as the zebra mussel and the brown tree snake. The fact is, we’re all connected now and contamination is almost unavoidable.

Because "sterilization" of a million fish is impossible.

Good question. And for that matter, what about the domestic ones like Sarah Palin?

On the other hand, breeding programs alleviate the pressure on wild populations. Further, it is hard to know what the effect of releases will be, whether the animal be native or exotic. Even the government fouls up frequently (multiflora rose and kudzu were planted on purpose).
