Pizzelle are a great gift at Christmas or for any special event. But when it is time to wrap them up for giving away, it can be challenging to be sure that the fragile cookies do not crack when sent.

Anyone who has ventured to move pizzelle or have bought them on the web learn just how vulnerable to breaking these desserts often are. And though one or two crushed cookies may not be devastating, a container full of them totally destroys the presentation of the gift. So, how do you move or send containers of these desserts to friends or family without presenting them with a container full of crumbs in the end?

If you aren’t transporting them far, and if you are bringing them yourself, you can place them on a cookie plate by themselves or as part of a cookie selection. When doing this, make certain that the cookies lie flat on the dish or platter. They can be stacked if you want, but try to keep them flat. Cover carefully with a sheet of cellophane wrap and ensure that the dish lies flat during transport.

A different way to give them as gifts is to pack them up in smaller containers. This is best when carrying them somewhere to present as a number of gifts, such as when going to a party or other event. Cardboard mug boxes or medium sized candy and treat boxes work for this.

Having said that, different pizzelle makers make totally different sized cookies, so measure the diameter of the cookie and measure the measurements of the box before shopping for any container to use to place them in. If you do not do this, then you could potentially end up with containers that are just a bit small for your cookies.

Cookie tins work well for when you need to have them well protected. This is excellent for when you are mailing cookies or where a tray or cardboard box is likely to be crushed while being delivered. Previous cookie tins can be used again, or you can generally find them offered at discount stores. As with the cardboard containers, be certain that you know the dimensions of the cookies to be sure that they will fit into the tins.

When packing pizzelle for shipping, no matter which sort of container that you use, take care to not overcrowd the treats. Doing so presents a greater risk of breakage. And if you are sending the cookies or transporting them in a carton that is a bit too large, protect the breakable cookies by filling the empty areas with clean crumpled paper towels.
